life-changing ramen

after the third lunch at lucio's, i walked all the way from paddington to the city and even then felt like i was on the verge of implosion. chilled out back at kaier's bachelorette pad then met up with kelly. after a  statisfying tea (amazed there was still space for the richest chocolate tart with peanuts), dana whetted my appetite with the prospect of ramen in chinatown. he warned that the broth was so thick that it'd congeal inside me in minutes. but being the soup fan i am, i stoically accepted his challenge and we braved the wind and rain as we headed two blocks south. miraculously by dinner time,  i was ready for ramen.

and it is by far the absolute best ramen i've ever ever had. mind you, i made it a personal mission to find the best ramen in tokyo (i.e. ramen on a daily basis, sometimes twice a day for an entire week in january  2009) and i like to think i've sniffed out the better ramen offerings in singapore (santouka at central is a personal favourite) so just maybe i'm semi-qualified to say that this was the best ramen ever.

what made it so very different from all the other ramen i've tried is the thick thick soup. somehow they've boiled the bones for so long that the collagen and marrow has leeched into the broth, giving it this amazingly thick texture without the addition of any corn starch. i excitedly started slurping all the soup and only when dana looked at me horrified did i realise i'd drained the soup before starting on my ramen. oops. yes, i did feel the soup congeal in me after, but nothing some bubble tea with the freshest pearls couldn't remedy.

who would've thought! the best ramen ever, in sydney.

better yet, after ramen and bubble tea, we went back to the apartment for a steam, sauna and soak in the outdoor jacuzzi before gussying up to check out ivy for drinks.
