tgif at tbc

what better way to celebrate xj's last day of call break than a three hour pampering session, followed in quick succession by an afternoon at the beach. we planned this looong ago, from the confines of our shared cubicle, and all too soon call break was upon us.

couldn't have picked a more perfect day to head to the beach and just as we tired of the blue skies (it's possible, believe me...) the clouds rolled in and we'd perfect cloud cover.

when we'd our fill at tbc, i decided it was high time that xj went to restore. funny story: the restore recommendation first came from xj herself and after i became a regular, she still hadn't gone! this just goes to show how she's a A+ employee and works way harder than i ever did. anyhoos, it'd be a blooming waste to be so near and not stop by so we whiled away the rest of the evening over waffles, deep in discussion about return of investment.

yay to girlfriends! and fridays! and NOT HAVING TO WORK :D

eskimo, my newfound love

My ears aren’t very long so I hadn’t heard of Eskimo till I saw @plongin’s tweet. However, one look at Paul and beautiful lady on his arm and you’d know he’s a man of impeccable taste. So when he raved about the assam black tea with pudding and coffee jelly, I knew I had to try. As luck would have it, a different P who happens to be interning and seated next to me, texted the next day to ask if I’d like some Eskimo. My usual polite self-restraint was cast to the wind and I semi-demanded two cups, one for me and one for cubby buddy.

One sip and I started grinning so wide that cubby commented she’d never seen me that happy, not even after the S$9.3million ruling.

It’s been awhile since I had a brand new drinking experience. I liked that the tea wasn’t too sweet and how well the contrast of textures in each sip worked. The mildly bitter coffee jelly and smooth as silk pudding has me thinking about it even now. And hipster as this choice of tea sounds, it was well and truly a winner.

lazy monday afternoon

i'm not usually a fan of mondays - and am hardpressed to find anyone who is! most mondays, i wear blue to work in silent protest at the start of the work week. however, this monday was different. stayed up late reading (for fun, not for work!) and absolutely refused to set my alarm. rolled outta bed when i felt like it, had a massive lunch at la strada (swear by their carbonara. the best i've had in sg!), moseyed over to borders and then on to robertson quay for some time out, and more reading.

toyed with the idea of going to kith but unforch my heels weren't made for walking. in my defence, i'm also all ache-y wachy from yesterday's over ambition that was cross country. having passed by book cafe the last time i popped by kith, decided to plonk myself down there for a bit. gleefully helped myself to cosmo and vogue and was cat content for most of the evening. the only grouse i have, however, is that it had the same "smelly interior" problem as kith. it was a cool day and i didn't mind sitting outside one bit, but what a pity the inside reeked of cooked food.

existential angst, yo

realise that with this hipstamatic app, all my photos look the same! however, i promise i actually -do- visit different places each weekend...

yay to starting the work week on tuesday, bigger yay to general elections on saturday and biggest yay to roadtrip-in-the-pipelines.

the plain

continuing with exploring singapore series, here's a quaint cafe we chanced upon at craig road. noe had really kindly forwarded a friend's hitlist of must-visits and we've been slowly making our way down the list. the coffee was -really- good! and the pastrami ciabatta (in photo) was the first sandwich that made me go WOW in a loong time. in fact, i can't remember when my last WOW sandwich moment was. so this was some seriously good stuff :)

because, after all, to quote liz lemon,

that's it for now! peace.

tea with kelly

as luck would have it, kelly happened to be in sydney the same time i was! a few IDD texts later (isn't technology wonderful? i texted her and my text went from my mobile to the sydney satellite to the singapore satellite back to the sydney satellite and to her!)

despite having had yet another ten course lunch at lucio an hour earlier, we arranged to meet at a charming french patisserie by the rocks. pity i got distracted by the stores en route to the rocks from the city and was a teensy tiny bit late. and the patisserie stopped taking eat-in orders :( undaunted, we chose the prettiest tartlet on display and traipsed to the waterfront (kelly in her newly acquired boots and me in my satin flats) where we sat on a bench and watched the sunset over the opera house. we caught up, as girlies tend to do, and i love the understanding we have, forged over similar upbringing and education. she's such fun and i liked how we think alike, narcissistic as it sounds. so we swung our legs and talked about our reluctance to settle, down or otherwise, about our cherished independence and disinclination towards children. a little scary if you were our parents, but we figured we'd get the wanderlust and insatiability out of our systems before we hit the big 3-0 and hopefully mature into functional adults and potentially good wives by then.

 (that's kelly!)
